How do I get vaccinated?

Illnesses such as the flu can be very dangerous for aspergillosis sufferers. To prevent yourself from becoming unwell we recommend you have the following vaccinations, as well as any other standard vaccines recommended in your country:

• Flu:  There is a new flu vaccine every year and the CDC recommends you have it before October. The vaccine is derived from influenza virus grown in a hen’s egg – if you are allergic to eggs there is a low egg version available, which costs more but covers 4 strains.

• Streptococcus pneumoniae: In the UK the PPV vaccine (read the patient leaflet here) is used for people aged 65+ and those at risk due to long-term health conditions.  In the US there are 2 vaccines used: the Prevnar 13 vaccine and the Pneumovax 23 vaccine.

• Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
