All of our online meetings use links to our Teams software to connect you to us. New users need to register for an account with Eventbrite to obtain tickets (Links) to our events, and you must have a device (laptop/smartphone/tablet) that has a microphone & speakers (or a headset) to participate.

Teams is free-of-charge software from Microsoft. It will run on browsers (Chrome and Edge) but may ask you for permission to install a browser extension and ask you for access to your camera and microphone during the startup process.

there can be complications when trying to connect with Microsoft Teams links in certain browsers. Here are some common issues and considerations:

1. Browser Compatibility

  • Supported Browsers: Teams generally works best in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Other browsers like Safari and Firefox may have limitations or performance issues.
  • Older Versions: Using outdated versions of browsers may cause compatibility problems with Teams.

2. Browser Settings

  • Pop-Up Blockers: If pop-ups are blocked, it can prevent Teams from opening properly.
  • Cookies and Cache: Clear your browser’s cookies and cache, as corrupted data can cause connection issues.

3. Permissions

  • Microphone and Camera Access: Some browsers may require explicit permission to use the microphone and camera, which can affect video and audio connections.
  • Network Permissions: Ensure your browser has permission to use network resources, especially in corporate environments.

4. Extensions and Add-ons

  • Ad Blockers: Extensions like ad blockers may interfere with Teams functionalities. Temporarily disabling these can help troubleshoot issues.
  • Security Extensions: Some security or privacy-focused extensions can block Teams from functioning correctly.

5. Connection Issues

  • Internet Connectivity: Ensure you have a stable internet connection, as poor connectivity can affect your ability to join Teams meetings.
  • Firewall or Network Restrictions: Some corporate networks may restrict access to Teams or specific features, especially if you’re trying to connect from a personal device.

6. App vs. Browser

  • Teams App: Using the desktop or mobile app may provide a more reliable experience compared to the web version, which can be prone to more issues in browsers.

Tips for Troubleshooting

  • Try a Different Browser: If you experience issues in one browser, switching to a supported browser like Edge or Chrome may resolve the problem.
  • Update Your Browser: Ensure you’re using the latest version of your browser.
  • Use Teams Desktop App: If possible, download and use the Teams desktop application for a more seamless experience.

We hope that helps – see you there!
