Severe asthma with fungal sensitisation (SAFS) is a form of severe asthma in which the immune system is sensitised to one or more fungi, such as Aspergillus. This fungal sensitisation can contribute to airway inflammation and difficult-to-control asthma symptoms. SAFS is not the same as a fungal infection of the lungs.
