- Voriconazole (Vfend) or itraconazole (Sporanox) as first-line treatment, or amphotericin B if they fail.
- Posaconazole (Noxafil/Posanol) or isavuconazole (Cresemba) are funded by the NAC in a very limited number of cases, on a trial basis with annual review as they are very high cost. Applications for funding can also be made to your local CCG.
- AmBisome ਜਾਂ micafungin (Mycamine) are intravenous drugs that would only be prescribed in the event that other drugs failed.
ABPA/SAFS or other forms of aspergillosis
- Applications must be made to your local CCG
Patients from Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland (or other countries) require permission from their local healthcare provider before their referral will be accepted by the NAC, and some (e.g. from Scotland) must have confirmation of their diagnosis before referral. For more information about the referral process please see the NAC website.
Applications for funding to local CCGs are not guaranteed as they are awarded on the basis of the applicant being a special case.
Fluconazole is not effective against Aspergillus.
